Net zero technologies market assessment

Project: Consultancy

Project Details

Description

Harbour Energy, one of the leading UK Oil and Gas companies that supplies about 15% of the UK domestic gas supply, has committed to achieving net zero emissions across its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035. They also lead the Viking Carbon Capture and Storage project, part of the UK government Track-2 CCUS Sequencing competition, in partnership with BP, that aims to develop a CO2 transport and storage network in the Humber. This project alone aimed to reduce the UK's emissions by 10 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030 and up to 15 million tonnes of CO2 by 2035.

Harbour was seeking to determine whether a viable business model exists for a specific net-zero technology that could enable them to develop a separate business offering related to their oil and gas exploration and CO2 transportation and storage activities.

This consultancy project aimed to perform a market review with a focus on:

i) understanding the specific net-zero technology's current state-of-the-art
ii) emerging technologies that will be available in 5-10 years
iii) business models available for specific net zero technology
iv) identification of most promising geographical locations for implementation of specific net zero technology
v) identification of risks and opportunities associated with deployment
