Project Details
Description
The AKT2I will develop and implement advanced NLP-supported design tools and workflows to streamline the extraction and parse of technical requirements to develop an automated design prototype. TaperedPlus is a roof design company, specialising in tapered insulation for flat roofs, designing and supplying flat roofing products and services for domestic commercial and industrial markets including health, education and retail. They offer bespoke roofing and insulation products and additional services in technical specifications e.g. insulation, BIM, acoustic, thermal measuring and surveying.
The company have recognised a major growth area in non-combustible cladding/insulation markets so have launched an aggressive 5 year growth strategy to scale from £14M annual turnover to £40M. which involves expansion and diversification into product manufacturing and consultancy services in new markets.
In advance of this growth, the company must target the inefficiencies within their business processes by automating current manual activities. They require a holistic digitisation strategy by utilising Artificial Intelligence and a Data science framework to create a Digital Twin. This will enable TaperedPlus to upskill and redeploy staff to more income-generating activity and enable long-term growth. In anticipation of this major step change, the AKT2I will focus on utilising Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology to streamline TaperedPlus’s technical design phase. TaperedPlus needs to develop tools and algorithms capable of intelligently parsing information from a variety of file formats using NLP. The AKT2I will create a technical prototype of and NLP-based tool and workflow which will extract key parameters from numerous data sources to automate the design specification. It will provide a pivotal role in suggesting refined design parameters, pinpointing potential conflicts, and generating preliminary design concepts based on the extracted technical requirements. resulting in more accurate extraction of the essential technical details. This will enable increased efficiencies in design time and increase capacity (of approximately 1100 new drawings per year) to generate 70 new contracts totalling in excess of £600,000, whilst also mitigating the potential for human errors. The AKT2I is an initial feasibility phase to create an NLP assisted tool for TaperedPlus and proactively design and anticipate the creation and integration of a powerful digital twin (as a KTP) which can automate the design of the technical drawings for existing and future product design.
