Sekers Objects Sewing Circles

Women in the Whitehaven and West Cumbria region, including refugees and asylum seekers, participated in a series of textile arts workshops delivered in collaboration with project partner and community arts organisation Handpicked Productions. Artefacts and images crowd-sourced as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project, Sekers Objects, acted as prompts for the sharing of memories relating to women’s creativity in the home and workplace, with participants creating their own original textile art. Outcomes were shared through a celebration event and will be displayed as part of a wider exhibition exploring community memory, cultural heritage and the textile industries in West Cumbria at Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven.
