    Abstract

This work aims to explore the social and political context of smuggling during the period of the Italian occupation and subsequently Administration (1912–1943) in the Dodecanese, particularly between 1924, when the region was annexed to Italy, and the beginning of WWII. The examination of the approach and policies of the Italian colonial regime towards illegal markets raises a series of interesting questions regarding the study of the political economy o such markets, particularly in light of the policy of tolerance which the Italian administration applied towards them (Note: abstract translated from the Greek language)
