Abstract

Late on Christmas Eve, 1959, a memorial stone to victims of National Socialism in Cologne was defaced. Black paint was smeared over the second sentence of the inscription “Here lie seven victims of the Gestapo. This memorial recalls Germany’s most shameful period 1933-1945”.
