Abstract

Recently, developing and implementing phishing attacks require little or no technical skill and minimal cost. This uprising has resulted in an unprecedented surge in the number of phishing attacks experienced daily on the World Wide Web. There has become a need for a lightweight and proactive technique to combat these phishing attacks. In this paper, we looked into the use of URL cosine similarity value and IP address comparison in detecting phishing web pages which, to the best of our knowledge is a novel feature. The experimental result obtained on 100 phishing URLs yielded 100% accuracy while minimizing memory usage.
