A re-view of educational inequalities

Education has the potential to change lives, however, sadly educational inequalitiespersist. Now, in the context of various global crises, is a timely moment to encouragepeople to act. In contemporary society we have witnessed major geo-political eventswith huge implications for social relations at local, national and global levels. Chiefamong these is the growing divide between rich and poor, political polarisation andthe rise of far-right extremism, and the climate change crisis and associated environ-mental protests. In addition, the #MeToo movement has given a voice to those whohave suffered sexual harassment or violence. And in 2020 the global pandemic (COVID-19) brought into sharp focus existing inequalities, highlighting that already disadvan-taged groups – or rather groups living in disadvantaged circumstances – suffered the con-sequences of COVID-19 more greatly. The year 2020 also witnessed the largest and mostwidespread internationally Black Lives Matter protests in the history of the movement, fol-lowing the murder of George Floyd.
