Abstract
Globally the popularity, volume and diversity of Professional Doctorate (PD) programmes continues to grow (McSherry and Bettany-Saltikov 2014) and run alongside the student experience. The equality and equivalence of the PD and Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) is a controversial issue. There is an emerging criticism of the relevance of the PD route when compared to the traditional PhD route (Banerjee and Morley, 2013). A netnographic study (Janta, Lugosi and Brown, 2014) concluded that PhD students feel very isolated during their journey
