    Abstract

Description: Light and portable, sketchbooks have been my constant companions throughout my practice, enabling me to record fleeting moments and observations which otherwise would disappear into the maelstrom of our every day lives. This sketchbook (15.5 x 11cm) was compiled on several visits to an allotment in Wallsend, a place of life and growth amidst the urban post-industrial landscape of North Tyneside. Made outside on location one has to work quickly and the decisions one makes, responding to a world in flux, happen almost beyond thought as observations are translated into marks.
