Abstract
Assertive outreach is entrenched as part of UK Government policy (DoH, 1999, 2000, 2001). In essence assertive outreach is a way of engaging services with clients that cannot, or do not wish to, engage with services. Despite all the hype and political rhetoric assertive outreach is not a treatment in its own right; it is simply a vehicle by which evidence-informed treatment packages can be offered to clients. One major aspect of the assertive outreach movement is Assertive Community Treatment (hereafter referred to as ACT).
