Evidence points to the positive impact of mentoring as a key driver for attainment in higher education, however, several intersectional barriers hinder effective mentoring among the minority ethnic students in UK higher education institutions (HEIs). Improving mentoring practices for minority ethnic students in UK, particularly in postgraduate research (PGR), remains a top priority for enhancing progression and achievement in this group of students. There might be some literature on the existing mentoring practices for minority ethnic PGR students in UK HEIs, however it is not clear how intersectionality has been used to explore the factors influencing these practices. Understanding these intersectional dynamics is critical to the development of tailored interventions to tackle this challenge. This systematic review will synthesise qualitative literature to understand the nature and significance of the existing evidence on the mentoring practices for minority ethnic PGR home students in UK HEIs and the intersectional dynamics influencing these practices.
