Abstract

The title of this special issue does not explicitly reference the germ of its creation. Rather, it focuses on three interconnected yet disparate, real, yet unreal environments, wherein an individual is able to curate and shape an ideal self and which permit (explicitly or implicitly) that self to be analysed and judged by others. Whilst the digital spaces these essays consider are temporally manifold, they exist within a limited (yet it would appear, currently expanding) period: the COVID-19 pandemic.
