Abstract
This chapter discusses the design and development process of Building Waste Tool (BWT). The methodological approach, modelling environments, and validation process adopted to develop BWT are discussed. Seven components are plugged into the BWT to allow users to quantify the amount of construction waste expected to be generated based on the given design information. The tool also allows users to explore alternative material choices that support waste and carbon reduction across the life cycle stages of the building. The functions of these components are discussed in this chapter. This chapter also presents the validation results of the proposed framework. Two checks are performed to test the operational and quantification efficiency of the framework. The operational efficiency is assessed to ensure that the proposed framework performs based on the defined requirements and undergoes the complete process seamlessly. The quantification efficiency evaluates the accuracy of obtained construction waste quantification results and their differences with other datasets.
