Abstract

Dryformer is a new type of oil-free power transformers which its windings are made of high voltage cable. Calculation of electromagnetic forces acting upon windings under short circuit condition is an important stage in mechanical design of Dryformer. In this paper, 2D and 3D finite element models are utilized to analyze magnetic field and calculate short circuit forces upon Dryformer windings. The radial and axial forces upon high voltage and low voltage windings are investigated in 2D and 3D models, and the results are compared with each other. The results of this paper are very useful in mechanical design of Dryformer, where sufficient bracing must be provided to prevent winding being damaged
