Abstract
This chapter will introduce you to the psychology and sociology of health, and it has content links with Chapter 14, Protecting Children and Vulnerable adults. You will develop an understanding of psychological theory and sociological factors and how these can impact on an individual's health and life chances. The first part will focus on developing an understanding of underpinning psychological theories in relation to health and illness and will examine the role of psychology as an examination of development through the life span. The second part will identify sociological theories and theorists that explain inequality in health and life chances.
