Decarbonising De-industrial Places: The Case of Teesside

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

This presentation discusses Teesside's dramatically-changing industrial circumstances from the 1970s to the 2020s, from steelmaking, petrochemicals and heavy engineering to current developments. It is asked; how can the region successfully decarbonise while ensuring the transition is fair and equitable? It will be argued that only if Teesside’s unique place-based challenges are acknowledged by local policy-makers can a just transition to a green economy be realised.
