Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The continual rise in diabetes prevalence globally, especially type-2 diabetes (T2D) is affecting diverse global populations with major burdens on morbidity, mortality, and associated healthcare costs. Successful T2D prevention through large scale lifestyle interventions and laboratory based trials have variedly contributed to making public health policies and T2D prevention recommendations, especially on diet and exercise. However, forming uniform lifestyle guidelines and scalable approaches continue to be a challenge due to the diverse population needs at different environmental life and work settings and individualized responses to exercise prescription and nutrition guidelines. Attributing specific T2D preventative benefits to exercise or diet is challenging. However, optimizing innovative exercise approaches such as high-intensity exercise, and dietary nutraceutical effectiveness through applying an individualized lifestyle approaches could help in forming new personalized T2D prevention guidelines.
