Distributive injustice effect on employee’s innovative behavior in hotels: Roles of workplace envy and workplace spirituality

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This study examines how employees’ innovative behavior (EIB) is affected by distributive injustice (DI) in hotels, with workplace envy (WE) as a mediator and workplace spirituality (WS) as a moderator. Data was gathered from 405 employees of 5-star hotels in Egypt and was analyzed utilizing “PLS-SEM” by WarpPLS 7.0. The results showed a negative association between DI and WS, a positive relationship between DI and WE, negative relationships between WS and WE, and WE and EIB. In addition, WS moderates the relationship between WE and EIB and mediates the DI and WE; also, WE mediates the relationship between DI and EIB. This study contributes theoretically to bridging the gap in studies on DI, WE, and WS concerning EIB, especially in the hotel industry. In practice, it provides hotel enterprises with recommendations for improving the workplace environment, which may have a positive impact on hotel innovativeness.
