Enhancing self regulation during emotional perturbations in sport

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Competitive athletes in sport are often required to anticipate and respond to unpredictable event. The dynamical systems perspective on coordination emphasizes self regulation of action via individual, task and environmental constraints in the environment. This is contrasted with the information processing approach which emphasizes central executive decision making. The two approaches are briefly contrasted and the advantages for organizing training practices consistent with the dynamical systems approach is discussed.
