Abstract

This chapter provides details on the history, theoretical foundations, and mechanisms of transport for various types of membranes that include inorganic, organic, polymeric, mixed matrix, and facilitated transport membranes. An insight into the established models for mixed matrix membranes performance prediction is given along with defining the latest advancements in the model's development. The chapter concludes with discussions on future research and development opportunities for the membranes mentioned above.
