Abstract

In this book, we present an approach to global health metrics that is neither led by an international organisation, nor is it backed by a private foundation. Instead, it represents a crowd-sourced approach to the problem of measuring health and disease at the global, regional and national scale by independent academics interested in this research field. Global Health Epidemiology Research Group (GHERG) has been producing various global health estimates since 2013, based on transparent set of approaches and methods. This book reflects on their research output during the first ten years of their activity. GHERG’s estimates serve as a welcome scientific replication for the estimates developed by the World Health Organization and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
