Abstract
An empirical investigation is carried out to see how the institutional context at the national level affects the association between international entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial networks. In order to represent the relative strength of the entrepreneurial network possessed by an entrepreneur, we have devised a relative measure of the entrepreneurial network. For 56 nations between 2009 and 2013, we combine information from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) surveys and the Economic Freedom of the World (EFW) score. Our findings, which are supported by a multi-level model, indicate that entrepreneurs would benefit from public advice entrepreneurial networks more as their access to them increases, but private advice entrepreneurial networks discourage this behavior. Nevertheless, a high level of access to the public advisory entrepreneurial network is more likely to result in international entrepreneurship in nations with lower levels of economic freedom, but the strength of the association between the public advice entrepreneurial network and international entrepreneurship depends on the institutional context. These findings offer hints as to how economic freedom influences not just how much personal effort is directed toward profitable entrepreneurial endeavors, but also how much socio-cognitive resources are likely to be mobilized and result in high-growth entrepreneurship.
