Abstract

This chapter will introduce the structure and format of the textbook. It will define digital lawyering as the use of appropriate, safe and effective online technological innovations and techniques within the delivery of legal service, often through secure and authentic online law platforms. It will explain that this requires the demonstration of vital digital knowledge, skills, qualities and aptitudes by professionally responsible lawyers for the purpose of collaborating, advising clients, undertaking legal transactions, and conducting dispute resolution and other forms of advocacy. It will encourage students to identify the key characteristics of digital lawyering and, in doing so, begin to think critically around some of the key issues that may arise. It will conclude with each author explaining their own digital lawyering journey, to put the chapters that follow in context.
