T1 - Microbiotechnology Based Surfactants and Their Applications
AU - Rahman, Pattanathu
PY - 2016
Y1 - 2016
N2 - Biosurfactants are structurally diverse group of bioactive molecules produced by a variety of microorganisms. They are secondary metabolites that accumulate at interfaces, reduce the surface tensions and form micellar aggregates. This research topic intends to report some novel microbial strains with a focus on better understanding the genetics, physiology and regulation of biosurfactant production technology and their commercial potential in environmental, food, cosmetics and healthcare sectors. The aim of this Research Topic is to highlight recent advances in our knowledge of the biosurfactants and our understanding of the biochemical and molecular mechanisms for their production, scale-up and industrial applications. Welcomed in this Research Topic were reviews and original research on the structure and mechanisms of biosurfactants produced by novel microorganisms and application oriented case studies.
