Abstract

The applications of on-line flow measurement and control of pulverised coal for reducing emissions and improving efficiency of coal fired power stations are discussed. The measurements of the pulverised fuel (PF) mass flow rate, concentration and velocity are required to control and optimize the split balance and air/fuel ratio, and to monitor the conveying conditions. The passive, non-restrictive electrostatic PF meters, which are hazard and maintenance free, are used for these measurements. The values of PF velocity, concentration and fuel mass flow rate, and in conveyors are calculated and displayed in forms of virtual instrumentation. A platinum thermometer is used in each meter to measure the flow temperature.
