Abstract
This paper outlines current developments in medical regulation in the UK and internationally and how these can be interpreted through a risk-based lense. In doing so, the paper highlights how contemporary analysis of the regulation of the professions suffers from a lack of critical consideration of the nature of growing public involvement in health care service delivery. The implications of this are considered and an research agenda set.
