Abstract

The Practice Educator Guidance Handbook will be of use to all paramedics, practice educators and other healthcare professionals who take on the responsibility for educating learners within their practice. The book will be useful for people contemplating the practice educator role or for existing practice educators who wish to expand their knowledge.
It will also be of benefit and provide guidance to education providers, practice based education providers, and will be essential to all those in a learner role. The main focus of this handbook is for those taking on responsibility for practice based education of learners who are on a recognised programme of study, leading to HCPC registration.
Practice educators show a great commitment to their own practice and to nurturing future paramedics, but many start with no formal development or qualifications in education. The handbook is written for an overarching audience and does not presume any current academic or professional qualifications related to practice education. For existing practice educators, and paramedics considering taking on this role, it will provide an overview of the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected.
