    Abstract

The complex spectra of polyol esters were investigated using statistical deconvolution. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) data were generated by means of a TofSpec 2E mass spectrometer, equipped with a nitrogen laser. Spreadsheets were developed for and applied to polyol esters with 2-6 ester groups with up to six different alkyl chain lengths. The results indicate that there are mostly C 16 and C 18 straight chain acids present in the reaction mixture.
