Abstract
This project saw the creation of a 6 hole crazy golf course using upcycled materials; raising awareness of waste and creative upcycling whilst exploring the practice of visual communication through a playful, physical installation work. The course was installed at Deer Shed Festival in 2018 and 2019 with over 3,000 unique plays on each occasion. In 2019 the National Trust requested the course be installed at Souter Lighthouse and this took place between August 23 - 30, 2019. This has started conversations with the National Trust regarding more permanent installation.
The project was led by a process of graphic problem solving and integrated aspects of user experience design, play and interaction in the context of graphic arts installation.
The process of design and making enabled participation from a broad range of skill sets and offered opportunities to students from the BA (Hons) Graphic Design and Illustration course to work on a live project alongside the author and maker.
