Abstract
This chapter explores the creation of material in the one-to-one context, either as a ‘one-off’ activity or as a process with the potential to result in a more extended resource. The authors also explore aspects relating to group and ensemble teaching, which may require the teacher to arrange existing repertoire for the particular needs of the group, therefore including consideration of instrumentation, pupil levels and number of players of each instrument. The implications for teachers who may be expected to deliver newly created material for no extra remuneration are indicated, as well as questions of perceived legitimacy in the role of creator-educator.
