The Design of Time in Theatre for Children and Young People

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

This paper explores how time is designed to invite interaction in performances for children and families. It considers four main topics:

1. Crafting the time before and after a performance: the importance of liminal spaces and informal interactions
2. Time to listen: scaffolding integrations and temporal alignment
3. Multi modal time: considering different modes of communication and creating space for each.
4. Time in the development process: the importance of time for true consultation, collaboration and learning with and from a young audience.
