Abstract
‘This is not a tree(branch) ‘ 2017 plays with our perception of what is ‘real ‘and more specifically what is ‘natural’. The piece at first glance, appears to be a known, familiar form but is in fact a subtle, reconstruction of a three pronged tree branch that has been reconfigured to form one single vertical branch. Further to this, a meticulous process of mould-making and casting has taken place using resin mixed with sawdust.
This metaphorical reconfiguration presents an awkward and vulnerable image. Its natural origins are also at odds with the wholly unnatural ‘plastic’ pink colouration.
