Abstract
COVID-19 poses several health complications. Despite an in-depth investigation of COVID-19 complications, effective natural polymer-based treatments have yet to be fully developed. Natural polymers have the potential use in the development of nanotherapies that can combat COVID-19. These polymers mostly include polysaccharides and polyphenols, and they possess attractive attributes such as low cytotoxicity, enhanced bioavailability, and biocompatibility. These qualities are important to effectively deliver drugs or bioactive compounds to the targeted site of action within the body. In recent years, innovative synthetic polymer-based nanomedicine approaches have been developed to combat several diseases. This chapter discusses some of the recent advances in the development of natural polymer-based nanoformulations that may prove to be therapeutically efficient in fighting against COVID-19-related health complications. While the mechanisms of these nanotherapies have not been extensively established, various mechanisms have been proposed and explored. Natural polymers have great potential in treating or preventing COVID-19 infections.
