Abstract
WSPR is trapped online listening to the tweets that circle the Earth, trying to make sense of the world through the themes of Shakespeare's original texts. Only able to manifest through words and image, WSPR generates visuals live and in real time. WSPR was originally live-streamed in 4 phases over 54 hours as part of the 2016 celebrations marking the 40th Anniversary of Shakespeare's death. The third phase of the artwork has been interpreted as an installation specifically for the 7th Marmara International Student Triennial. The work exists as Processing code and a curated library of images. When ran, the work generates based on an established system of criteria, chance and the live events on Twitter. Therefore the visual language of the work is designed yet the final form is live, temporary, transient and unrepeatable. The viewer is voyeur; witnessing something that will occur regardless, yet compelled to read, interpret and make meaning.
